Young Lawyers Initiative [YLI] Hosts Successful “Legal Discourse Webinar” on Thriving in the Legal Field

On July 19th, 2024, the Young Lawyers Initiative (YLI) community gathered virtually for their first-ever “Legal Discourse Webinar” titled “Thriving, Not Just Surviving”. The event was a resounding success, with vibrant participation from the YLI community.

The webinar featured a thought-provoking presentation by Yishak Baraki, who shared insights on “Overcoming Challenges in Ethiopian Law Schools.” Additionally, Judge Yahye Imran, a judge at the appellate court of South West Somalia in Baidowa, provided valuable experiences and perspectives on the Somali Law Schools.

The webinar was well taken and moderated by the YLI Fellow Danat Feleke. The presenter, Yishak, emphasized the importance of resource enhancement, such as investing in libraries, digital resources, and creating online repositories of legal materials. Yishak also discussed the need for partnerships to facilitate global legal database access and resource-sharing programs. Some key points raised by the participants during the webinar. Nigus and Mihiret, participants of the webinar from the YLI Community, raised key and important points regarding the presented topic of the webinar respectively.

The meeting was praised for its insightful and participatory nature, with the YLI community engaging in lively discussions throughout the event. This inaugural “Legal Discourse Webinar” marks an important milestone for the Young Lawyers Initiative, as it continue to empower and support the next generation of legal professionals.

The success of this event highlights the YLI’s commitment to fostering knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and professional development within the legal community. As the YLI looks ahead, it is poised to continue providing valuable platforms for Young Lawyers to thrive, not just survive, in their legal profession.
